SWINE FLU In our area, the swine flu outbreak has moved from a 'containment' status to one of 'treatment'. This means we are no longer performing routine swabs. In most cases, swine flu is unpleasant rather than life-threatening. Anti-viral medication is available - its affect on the flu is to lessen symptoms slightly and reduce the duration of the illness by a few hours. With this in mind, we are being asked to target the provision of anti-viral to particular at risk groups or those with severe symptoms. We do not recommend people take prophylactic anti-virals or medicine bought over the internet. Please contact NHS Direct or the practice is you have worries. Further information can be obtained from http://www.hpa.org.uk/webw/HPAweb&Page&HPAwebAutoListName/Page/1240812233855?p=1240812233855 No vaccine is available at present, but we believe it is being worked on. Details will follow in due course SEASONAL FLU We've already booked a date for this year's programme - Saturday 10 October 2009 This is for 'at risk' patients and those over 65.
